HOLIDAYS ABOUND

I originally thought to keep this site and blog relating to my career only.  But how can you separate career and life?  My career is my life.  It is my dream.  I am following my heart so how can I separate heart from soul? ;-)

This year's holiday was great.  Mellow.  Peaceful.

With Andrea, Peanut (our dog), my parents, Axel (my parents German Shepherd) and a pepperoni pizza for Christmas dinner instead of Turkey or ham (for as long as I can remember it's been turkey or ham) for the first time!  Ah yes, life was, is and will be grand. :-)

I have business on my mind.  I have things a going on.  Last year at this time things were quiet for me.  Crossing my fingers and hoping for a call.  Well I still cross my fingers and... no actually I don't cross my fingers at all! LOL!  What I actually do is my best.  I go out there, put my message out, do my best and because of that this year there is activity.  Acting is my passion.  Creating is my passion.  I enjoy challenge in things I enjoy.  It makes work like it's not really work.  Crazy as that sounds...  there's lots of truth in that statement.

On to 2010.

THE DUEL

3.30 pm and the largest winter storm of the year or of several years is just starting to roll into NYC.  In about 45 mins I'll head out to Brooklyn to shoot a scene in a short film called "The Duel".  I play a wrestler in a gym wrestling.  Yes, wrestling.  Catching a beating is more like it! LOL!

So many of the roles I take are very physical.  Each leaves me with a little scar.  A growth scar.  My badge of courage... of my evolution.

So in a couple hours I'll be in my trunks bouncing off the ropes, getting a spinning back kick to the chest, dropping to the floor and taking a leg drop of some kind across the throat.  Real WWE kinda shit.  Fortunately for me my partner is a top notch wrestler and knows how to do this with as little pain to me as possible.  Don't be fooled... there is still pain. ;-)  My boy Razor, check it out... http://www.myspace.com/razzarizzoti

Ok.  Gotta go put on my rubbers (snow shoes ;) and head out to Kid Kelly's Gym on Liberty street in Brooklyn.  Old school boxing gym... very cool.

INKED HOLIDAY SMASH

So I got an invite and hit up the Inked Magazine holiday party tonight.  Yeah... VIP. LOL!  Seriously though... I was... we were.  Andrea came with.  So there was a "red carpet" area where people were interviewed on film and several photographers taking pictures.  So I was up to bat and the chick with the mic asks my name and to tell her about my tats.  So "I'm Tim Dax, I'm an actor and my tattoos are who I am."  And then there was a pause... a little bit longer... and then it ended. I guess she was expecting something a little more long winded.  ;-)  We shared a few more words, I posed for the cameras then stepped around the velvet ropes and made sure every photographer there got my card.  No sense in having a pic of a dude they can't identify. Gettin it out there man.  It doesn't happen sitting down.

The party for me was more about the movie producers, magazine owners (not necessarily Inked mag owners... I don't even know if they were there)  and other industry peeps I wanna have know who I am.  As for Inked mag itself... I've barked up their tree more than once only to be ignored and eventually even told rather abruptly "we are not interested".   Nah, the party was a success for me in many other and more important ways... connecting.

Gotta connect with what's going on man.  Pay attention and put yourself out there... smack dab in the middle of a path of what you want.  Ensconce yourself in the direction you wish to travel.

Auditioned for a short film yesterday (that I think I got) and a short student film today, which I did get.  Things are cool.

HUXTABLE GETS WOOD

As far as my acting career is going... I'm getting busier.  I'm getting busier with all elements of the industry.  Film shoots, photo shoots, seminars, networking events, meeting the right people.  It's all about getting yourself out there.  And it doesn't happen sitting at home watching tv dreaming of being an actor.

And you gotta be ready to hustle!  Yesterday I got a call from a director to play a part in his movie "Huxtable Gets Wood".  Call time he reported to me over the phone was 8.30 on set.  "No problem! I'll be there!"  That means up at 6 am on Saturday morning walking in the deep freeze of this morning to a high school on the upper west side of town.  And I did it for free!  Yes, free.  You gotta start doing something even if you have to make a sacrafice.  What did I get in return?  I got to act.  I got to be a part of an industry I've always dreamed of.  I got practice.  I met new people.  I proved my reliability.  I get a clip of my scene for my reel.  And... this project will count towards me joining SAG (actors union).  So in the end... I really didn't work for free.  I got a lot in return.  And I gave out 7 or 8 of my business cards to other actors and film peeps who approached me for potential future projects.

Anything is everything!  That is my latest motto.  Now matter how insignificant you might think something... take another look.

So anyway I play a tough guy in leather who slams some dude up against the lockers and threatens him.  Short n sweet. ;-)

I didn't get any pics yet... (I gotta get better at carrying my still photo camera) but this is what I wore today minus my motorcycle. ;)

All is well.

TAKE NOTICE

Today I've set up my new site.  A blog site that quite actually is a web site.  Perfect for what I need.  I have been toiling with the idea recently of creating a web site.  My biggest problem with this is that I would have to pay for it since I don't know a damn thing about web design.  I'm not very computer literate in many ways.  So it seems to provide exactly what I need.  I need a page that is clean and direct.  I can blog, show and attach photos, videos through youtube, etc.  I even have links displayed at the bottom!  LOL!  To me that's a big deal (remember... I'm computer dumb ;)  Anyway it's easier and cleaner than both myspace and facebook.  Yes, I will keep both other pages running... although myspace seems to pass further and further into the abyss of "I don't care".  It just seems more and more juvenile.  I love facebook!  All my peeps are there.  And I like it for the most part.  It's just not geared for what I need to make a clean presentation as Tim Dax the actor to the rest of the world.

Oh... and check this!  I even got to choose my own url.  So now this site is registered as timdax.net.  Just like a website and instead of costing me hundreds... registering my url cost me a few bucks! LOL!  Sorry to the web designer who would've made money on me! ;-)

What you have to do is take notice.  Put your vibe out.

Realize what you need.

Talk about what you need.

And then listen to what people have to say.

I saved hundreds of bucks and dealing with a second party in creating something I got done in one morning.  I spoke to people about what I needed and eventually was suggested the best solution.

This works for everything in life.

Try it. ;-)

This is me right now being excited right now
