another day another fiddy cent

Merry Christmas Happy New Year. I say it often and I mean it more than ever. And I've even begun to give a broader expanding gift of yule tide joy. Happy Days! Let's face it. Why wait? LOL! Let us be merry and happy every day, hence my greeting more and more of late, Happy Days. :)

So much on my mind! It's a rat race up there! LOL! What to do next. Who to solicit next. How to solicit. What to solicit? It's all about reaching out there and tapping on everyone's shoulder real easy like and asking them to just listen and look at me for a minute. To just give a chance so I can prove I am here for a reason. And for good reason! I'm working on it and I am abuzz with nervous excitement. Literally!

It's hard work believing in yourself. But we are all here for a reason. For good reason! It all becomes more clear when we start believing more and more in ourselves. Then we will begin to realize why we are here. :-)

Thank you all.

And Happy Days! :-)

BEEN RAINING FOR DAYS BUT THERE'S SUNSHINE IN MY HEART!

LOL! How's that title for being "chipper"? ;-) Can't help it sometimes. When you're an optimist, things are just more fun. Too bad so many people don't let themselves be more happy.

Good things to be excited about... ok ok so it's been raining for almost a week straight in LA but at least it's not freezing cold! And this morning I had an audition for Dell computers. Got to the audition and sat, waited, chatted with other actors and commented on a cool hat a lady was wearing. Then I wished her happy holidays.

So I finished my Dell audition which could not have gone better, walked towards the door only to be stopped by the lady with the cool hat. She happens to be a casting director and asks if I'd like to audition for a Jim Beam commercial starring Willem Dafoe. "HELL YES!" is my reply as a rip a bigger smile across my face. She instructs me to return at 3:30!

The moral of my freakin story... be nice! Be happy! Spread joy and reap the rewards my friends. Don't make excuses. Just do it!

Happy Holidays Yall!

Good Stuff

It's all good. Everything that is. ;-) All is good if you want it to be.

So I've got a new timdax.net site! Kicks ass! It's one thing if you are talented but it's a whole other thing if you've got business acumen too. So many actors at my level (ground 0 is my level ;) have no idea how to proceed as business people. They don't know how to follow through or commit. How to be nice to EVERYBODY and to enjoy what they are doing. They tend to think it's all about a performance and that's it. LOL! Maybe for one in a billion! Aint happening that way for me. Every day I think of new approaches, new people, new ways of getting me "noticed" by the right people. The easiest beginning in any business persons pursuits is being nice. Saying please and thank you. Following up on commitments. These are the basics one must learn before any type of success is to follow.

Here is a huge poster that hangs in the main office where this program centers.  Very cool indeed.

CALIGULA MAXIMUS

Please come check out Caligula Maximus.  Opens March 11 thru April 3rd.  I had a laugh today speaking with director Alfred Pressier http://www.alfredpreisser.com/ when he asked what I tell people what I do in his show... because I play a gladiator from a more primal German time who wields a wooden spear and proceeds to get an ass whoopin from 3 gladiatrixes... not to be confused with dominatrixes... but then again... they could be dom's just the same.  I play Incitatus a horse that carries the great Caligula on my shoulders, makes love to said master (a verbal confirmation... we don't really do it on stage! LOL!  Although if I said we did maybe that'll make for a bigger draw at the box office ;) and appointed to the Senate again by said master Caligula.

I'm ridden hard and put away wet so to speak.  So do come see. ;-)

Check out some pr photos that we snapped yesterday and click on the link below for all the info on the show including tix, cast and director bios, etc.

CAVEMAN TO CALIGULA TO BRICKS

Good stuff happening, good stuff.  I auditioned for a commercial as a caveman and got the part.  I had meeting with the top casting director for Law & Order a couple days ago.  Rehearsals for the musical Caligula Maximus are going great!  Every day the show evolves.  It's very cool.   I am lucky to be involved with some very talented people.  The show is full of life (and death ;) after all it is Caligula I am speaking of.  Great music, great voices, great talent.

CALIGULA MAXIMUS

Musical theatre by Alfred Preisser and Randy Weiner.  I mentioned Caligula a few posts back when I auditioned for it.  Well I was cast and today was our first rehearsal.  A musical and physical celebration of the over exhuberant Ceasar, Tirant, Deviant, Pervert Caligula.  I think we all know the jist of his story.  If not, look it up.  So how perfect that I'm in it?   I'm a gladiator, a guard, a horse... and maybe some thing more.  We'll see.  Like I said today was only the first day. ;-) Oh and my name is Serenus Aphrodisius. ;-)

Greater story...

While at rehearsal today a guy came up to me and told me how much he liked the music video Brick by Brick from the Mr. Bricks soundtrack.  http://www.youtube.com/mrbricksmovie  Swear to God!  Said he listens to it before the gym!  How cool is that?!

Loving that I'm doing musical theatre and film.  So cool.

From "Albert" to Troma

I finished a two day shoot for the short film "Albert" the other day.  A brilliantly whimsical story about determination and imagination.  I played Geenie, a sworn protector to Mr. Sputnick, a cantankerous old man filled with angst and frustration.  In the end the old man is shown what magic the human spirit can produce when he believes in himself. :-)  So I'm a bodyguard and my costume (this is kinda funny) was almost the same as when I was the devil in "The Lair" a few days before.  Instead of red baggy Thai pants, no shirt and red body glitter... I wore baggy white Thai pants, no shirt and gold body glitter! LOL!

Part of my ticket into the movies is taking my shirt off! LOL!  I have no problem with that.  I am visual art, so I use it to my advantage. ;-)

Moving on... I had a meeting with some brilliant young minds at Troma Entertainment recently.  While at Troma headquarters in Long Island  City, NY I stole a moment at the great Lloyd Kaufmans desk.  Lloyd is co-creator of one of the biggest cult classics "Toxic Avenger"!  A movie I remember watching one late night on Cinemax when I was probably in the 6th grade.  Now I'm sitting at the makers desk!  Life can be so cool if you let it. ;-)

At Lloyd's desk...

THE LAIR

Just wrapped shooting (for me anyway... they still maybe have another day of shooting to complete the film) The Lair.  Directed by Joe Rosario http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1317851/  I auditioned a month or so ago and Joe said on the spot that he didn't have a part for me but he liked me so much he'd write me in!  And not only did he write me in... he made me the premise of the whole film! LOL!  Thank you Joe so much for being so kind and for taking a chance.  Thank you!  I had such a good time playing this part... the Devil!  Hookah Master Ray is my name and I am the devil.  I run a sexy smokey bar with sexy smokey ladies... and well... it was pretty cool to say the least.  Acting is lots of sitting around and waiting for your scene to be shot.  A 12 hour shoot day is a short day.  But the craziest thing... I enjoy it.  I don't get bored.  I soak it up and sit patiently.  I never thought I'd be that comfortable with work.  Thank you God!

Here are some pics from rehearsal earlier this week.  They're pretty cool.

Oh and by the way... it's not all yellow brick road for me.  I was rejected after a call back (call back is when they like you enough to call you in for another round of auditioning) for a White Castle hamburger commercial.  Ah well... they commended me on a great audition but gave the part to the taller guy! LOL!  I'm still not dramatic enough! LOL!

Anyway... those rehearsal shots... ;-)

CALIGULA

Yeah.  Caligula.  You know who that was?  Caligula was a Roman Emperor in power I think probably at the beginning of the end of the Roman Empire.  Anyway that was a long time ago.  So this Caligula guy... he was a little tapped in the head so to speak, and threw some really wild and really crazy parties, orgies; festivals of mass grotesque and beauty.

Today I auditioned for a part in Caligula, a live theatrical production.  I used a monologue from Shakespeare's "The Tempest"; Caliban, act II scene II seemed more than appropriate.

I don't ever want to say "I got it" because you never know shit until shit happens.  But...  the director  smiled an aweful lot and maybe even chuckled from joy while speaking with me today.  So either way I made a good impression.  And that's all I can do.

Life is good.  Making it happen. :-)

CONEY ISLAND SIDE SHOW LAST NIGHT

Well last nights performance in Williamsburg Brooklyn with the Coney Island Side Show was a hit!  Place was packed so tight it was your worst nightmare to walk to the stage from the back of the place where the dressing room was.  Finally on stage there was just enough room for the tattooed strong man, his accomplices, a snake, implements of fire, bed of nails, steel bars, electric metal grinders, swords for swallowing... you get the picture.  I started with a posing and flexing routine to Rob Zombies Dragula then went to a bed of very sharp nails then on to steel bending.  Very cool. ;-)

Funny story... Dick Zigun owner of the Coney Island Side Show www.coneyisland.com owns 2 beds of nails.  One that I had used in past was older.  So lets say maybe the nails weren't quite as razor sharp as the ones on the "newer" one he had brought for me to use last night! LOL! When I saw which bed he had brought I thought "shit."  And to top me off... we brought two ladies on stage to stand on top of me while I focused on not letting nails impale my skin. LOL!  When I saw the two girls come on stage I thought "fuuu**."  Later when I mentioned all this to Dick he looked at me and gave a chuckle.  "No worries Dick!  I do this stuff for the art man!"  I do it for the art.  And I love art.

Some photos from last night including this pre midnight brew challenge.  Get all this in yer gut! :-)  The venue was just so damn crazy and hectic with so many people therefor there was no good opportunity for filming.  Alas still photography will do ;-)

Bed of nails is bad ass.  And bending steel bars over your head... brutal. ;-)

~TD~

BTW... that beer was heavy.
